The complaint is not that Lightning Surge does nothing, it is that the skill asks Kliff to stand still and channel an area-of-effect pulse while the target can keep hitting him. Against regular mobs the self-damage tradeoff is tolerable because the stagger lands quickly and buys space. Against bosses the channel time is a gift to the enemy: the boss rarely proceeds into the stun state that Lightning Surge is trying to inflict, so the player ends up eating a full combo for almost no payoff.5757Tier placement: Roughly B tier for mob clears, C tier or lower for boss duels. The same video that ranked fire as S plus called Lightning Surge a "phenomenal way to die" in boss fights, which matches what most players report once they are past the early-game lightning imbued weapon phase. Early in the game, before any other element is unlocked, a lightning-imbued weapon plus Lightning Surge builds staggers faster than unmodified attacks. The electric field can dislodge Bismuth Ores and activate conductive objects, a utility that other elements cannot match.Skip for bosses. Do not slot Lightning Surge into a boss-focused rotation. Swap to Frost Mantle for parries or to Flame Strike for Spirit-efficient burn damage. Frost Mantle in particular works regardless of which active element is selected, so you can leave Lightning as your active imbue for mobs and still press Frost Mantle in boss phases.
