Add wikilinks to table cells (2 new links)
11Overview2233Patch 1.01.00 introduced five permanent legendary mounts that can be summoned at any time, each with unique stats and combat abilities. Three of them are classified as Legendary Animals (Silver Fang, Polar Bear, and Snow White Deer) while two are Boss Mounts (Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex and Rock Tusk Warthog). Unlike temporary mounts found in the wild, these legendary mounts stay with you permanently once unlocked and can be called in through the mount wheel by holding up on the D-pad.4455Every legendary mount follows the same four-step acquisition process: defeat the creature, skin it (or collect the key item for boss mounts), visit a witch to craft a sigil, and consume the sigil from your inventory to permanently unlock the mount. Each mount brings different strengths to the table. Some excel at traversal speed, others at raw combat damage, and one even fights alongside you while you are on foot.6677Universal Taming Method8899All five legendary mounts share the same unlock process. Understanding this flow before heading out will save you from missing a step and having to backtrack.10101111Defeat the creature. Travel to the mount's location and fight it. Legendary Animals are solo encounters against the creature itself, while Boss Mounts require you to defeat a mounted enemy rider in a two-phase battle.Collect the key item. For Legendary Animals, you must skin the defeated creature to obtain the key item (for example, the Fang of the Silver Fang). For Boss Mounts, the key item drops automatically after the boss is defeated in a short cutscene.Craft the sigil at a witch. Take the key item to any witch and open the crafting menu. Scroll to the very last tab to find the special sigil crafting option (listed under Craft Abyss Gear in the final section). Convert the key item into a Sigil of Solidarity.Consume the sigil. Open your inventory, select the sigil, and press X (or the interact button) to consume it. The mount is now permanently unlocked. Hold up on the D-pad and cycle through your mount wheel to summon it.12121313If you have already killed any of these legendary creatures before Patch 1.01.00, you will receive an automatic pop-up in the extra rewards list when you load your save. This gives you the required key items without needing to fight them again.14141515Prerequisite: The Legendary Wolf Questline16161717While not strictly required for every mount, completing the legendary wolf questline through House Celeste is strongly recommended. It unlocks an item that reveals all legendary animal locations on the map, making the other hunts significantly easier.18181919To unlock the legendary wolf questline, you need to complete faction quests across several Hernand houses. The quest becomes available under House Celeste once you have done enough quests for the other houses.20202121Required faction progression in Hernand:22222323Complete quests for House Roberts, House Alfonso, and other available housesFinish the Goldleaf Merchant Guild quests and Parish of Solumen questsThe "Silence from Afar" quest appears under House Celeste once enough faction progress is made24242525The final quest in this chain is "Howls from the North Gate," which tasks you with defeating Black Fang, a legendary wolf located in the Forest of Wolves north of the Sage's Peak. Upon defeating Black Fang, you receive Leebur's Soul, a key item that, when used from your inventory, permanently reveals the locations of all other legendary animals on your map. This makes tracking down Silver Fang, the Polar Bear, and the Snow White Deer far simpler.26262727Silver Fang Wolf28282929Type: Legendary Animal30303131Location: Howling Hollow, a cave in northern Hernand near the Sage's Peak. Both Silver Fang and Black Fang share the same cave area. You can see their icons on the map once you have used Leebur's Soul.32323333Prerequisites: You must defeat Black Fang first through the House Celeste questline described above. Silver Fang will not appear in the cave until Black Fang has been dealt with.34343535Key Item: Fang of the Silver Fang (obtained by skinning the wolf after defeating it)36363737Bonus Drop: Silver Fang Helm, a unique headpiece with a wolf aesthetic38383939Stats40404141StatValueAttack~120HP~1,100Stamina~280DefenseModerateSpeedModerate (slower than legendary horses and the Snow White Deer)4242Combat Abilities43434444Mounted Attack (R2): A lunging bite that deals solid damage to enemies in front of you.Dismounted Combat Companion: Silver Fang is the only legendary mount that actively fights alongside you while you are on foot. When you dismount, the wolf will engage nearby enemies on its own, acting as a combat companion. This makes it uniquely valuable for tough encounters.45454646The fight itself is not particularly difficult. Silver Fang may try to flee outside the cave arena, but you can chase it down and finish it off in the open. Several regular wolves accompany Silver Fang inside the cave, so clear them out first or be prepared to fight them simultaneously.47474848Polar Bear (White Bear)49495050Type: Legendary Animal51515252Location: Five-Finger Mountain, the northwesternmost point of Pailune in the Silver Mountains. This is the same area where the Darkbringer Greatsword can be found.53535454Prerequisites: None. The Polar Bear is available to fight as soon as you can reach its location. Using Leebur's Soul will mark it on the map, but you can also find it by simply traveling to Five-Finger Mountain.55555656Key Item: White Bear Claw (obtained by skinning the bear after defeating it)57575858Bonus Drop: White Bear Helm, a unique headpiece with a polar bear design59596060Stats61616262StatValueAttack180 (highest of all legendary mounts)HP~1,500 (highest of all legendary mounts)Stamina~200DefenseLower than the wolfSpeedVery Slow (not recommended for traversal)6363Combat Abilities64646565Standard Attack (R2): A heavy swipe that deals massive damage.Alternate Attack (R1): A different claw swipe variant, also dealing high damage.Multiple Attack Variants: The bear has several attack animations that all deal significant damage, making it the best mount for pure DPS output.66666767The Polar Bear is the best combat mount in terms of raw damage and survivability but the worst for travel due to its extremely slow speed and low stamina. Use fire attacks during the fight to knock the bear down repeatedly, making it writhe on the ground while you deal free damage. The bear has some cubs nearby when you find it. Be aware that the bear can occasionally become aggressive toward you after taming, which appears to be a bug.68686969You can heal the Polar Bear by slapping it, which restores its HP over time.70707171Snow White Deer72727373Type: Legendary Animal74747575Location: Between the letters A and I of "Pailune" on the map, near the Sanctum of Solace. Look for a pack of deer with one noticeably larger white stag that has oversized antlers.76767777Prerequisites: None. The Snow White Deer is available to hunt as soon as you can reach its location. Leebur's Soul will reveal its position on the map.78787979Key Item: Obtained by skinning the deer after defeating it80808181Bonus Drop: Throne of the White Knight, a unique decorative chair for your player house with a deer antler theme82828383Stats84848585StatValueAttackLow (on paper, but charge ability hits very hard)HP~900 (decent)Stamina300+ (highest of all legendary mounts)DefenseLowSpeedFast (not quite as fast as the best horses, but close)8686Combat Abilities87878888Charge Attack: Ram through enemies at speed, dealing heavy damage. Despite the low attack stat shown in the UI, the charge ability can one-shot most regular enemies.89899090The Snow White Deer is the easiest legendary animal to defeat. It will not attack you and instead tries to flee with the rest of the herd. Use a fire-imbued charged bow shot to knock it down immediately, then finish it off with a few melee strikes. You can also wear a deer cape or the deer helmet to blend in with the herd before striking.91919292This mount offers the best balance between speed and utility. Its high stamina and fast movement make it an excellent traversal mount, while the charge ability gives it surprising combat effectiveness despite its low base attack stat.93939494Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex95959696Type: Boss Mount97979898Location: Wayward Woods in Pailune, north of the Ridge Hunter Tannery. The boss patrols this area and must be tracked down.9999100100Boss: Moren, the Mistwood Huntmaster. A powerful mounted enemy who rides the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex. The fight has two phases: after depleting the first health bar, Moren disappears and must be tracked again using your lantern or minimap (look for the large red boss circle).101101102102Key Item: Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex Horn (drops automatically after defeating both phases)103103104104Prerequisites (Detailed)105105106106This mount has the most complex unlock requirements of all five. You must progress through multiple faction questlines in a specific order:107107108108Reach Chapter 8 or later in the main story to unlock access to the full set of Pailune Militia faction quests.Complete all available Pailune Militia quests (up to 15 quests), including the Harpy Nest boss and the Blood Golem boss. Fast travel after finishing quests to trigger new ones to appear.Unlock the Skulhorn Tribe faction quests. These become available after completing the Pailune Militia chain. Complete the Soul Shepherd's quest, which culminates in a fight against the White Horn Yeti boss.Unlock the Longleaf Tribe faction quests. These appear after completing the Skulhorn Tribe chain. The specific quest you need is a bounty called "Concern of the Tannery" (also referred to as "Fog Over the Forest" or "The Sport Hunter").Pick up the bounty notice at the Ridge Hunter Tannery camp. Clear the camp of enemies first, then interact with the bounty notice on a pillar in front of one of the houses.Track and defeat Moren in the Wayward Woods. He patrols the area around the quest circle on your map.109109110110Stats111111112112StatValueAttackLow (~60)HP~1,000 (decent)Stamina300+ (very high)DefenseVery LowSpeedModerate113113Combat Abilities114114115115Hind Leg Kick (R2): A backward kick that deals moderate damage to enemies behind you.Charge: A forward charge while riding at full speed. Decent for crowd control.116116117117The Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex has high stamina but low attack and almost no defenses. It is the weakest of the five legendary mounts in direct combat. Its main appeal is the prestige of completing the long faction quest chain required to unlock it, and its distinctive horned appearance. Use fire attacks during the Moren boss fight to help dismount the rider.118118119119Rock Tusk Warthog120120121121Type: Boss Mount122122123123Location: The Bordering Ruins area in the Crimson Desert region, east of the Red Sea on the right side of the map. The boss is located in the swampland between five ruins. Look for groups of enemies riding warthogs in this area.124124125125Boss: The warthog rider with a red cape (quest: "Master of the Wetlands"). Like the Ibex boss, this fight has two phases. After depleting the first health bar, the boss disappears in smoke and must be tracked again. Check your minimap for the large red boss circle, as the boss often returns to the same area.126126127127Key Item: Rock Tusk Warthog Tusk (drops automatically after defeating both phases)128128129129Prerequisites130130131131The prerequisites for this boss are minimal compared to the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex. You may need some progress in the Lords of Unclaimed Lands faction questline, which pertains to this region. However, multiple players have reported the quest appearing simply by traveling to the Bordering Ruins area in the Crimson Desert zone without any specific faction quest completion. The quest "Master of the Wetlands" triggers when you approach the area between the five ruins.132132133133Stats134134135135StatValueAttack100HP~1,300 (second highest)Stamina~200DefenseLowSpeedModerate136136Combat Abilities137137138138Charge: Similar to the Snow White Deer's charge, but with lower stamina it does not last as long. Can hit a handful of grouped enemies.139139140140The boss fight is challenging due to the large number of warthog-riding enemies in the area. Bring your best gear and healing items. Fire attacks can help dismount the boss rider. After defeating the first phase, loot the defeated regular enemies while waiting for the boss to reappear, as it often returns to the same spot.141141142142Mount Comparison Table143143144144The following table compares all five legendary mounts across their key attributes to help you decide which ones to prioritize.145145146146MountTypeAttackHPStaminaSpeedBest ForSilver Fang WolfLegendary Animal~120~1,100~280ModerateCombat companion (fights while dismounted)Polar BearLegendary Animal180~1,500~200Very SlowRaw DPS and tankingSnow White DeerLegendary AnimalLow~900300+FastTraversal and charge attacksIcicle Edge Alpine IbexBoss Mount~60~1,000300+ModeratePrestige; high staminaRock Tusk WarthogBoss Mount100~1,300~200ModerateBalanced; charge attack147147Tips and Recommendations148148149149Fire is your best friend. Fire-imbued attacks and fire arrows are extremely effective against all legendary animals. They cause knockdowns that leave the creature writhing on the ground, giving you free damage windows. Fire is also useful for dismounting the boss riders of the Ibex and Warthog.Always skin legendary animals. After defeating a Legendary Animal (wolf, bear, or deer), you must press the skin button to collect the key item. If you forget to skin it, you will not receive the crafting material needed for the sigil.Any witch works. You can craft the sigil at any witch in the game. The crafting option is in the very last tab of the crafting menu (Craft Abyss Gear, final section). The witch in Hernand is often the most convenient.Do not forget to consume the sigil. After crafting the Sigil of Solidarity, you must open your inventory and use it. Simply having it in your inventory does not unlock the mount.Fast travel triggers new quests. When working through the faction quest chains for the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex, fast travel to any location after completing a quest. This can trigger the next quest in the chain to appear.Use your lantern to track bosses. During the second phase of Boss Mount fights (Ibex and Warthog), the boss flees and must be found again. Use your lantern tracking ability or watch your minimap for the large red boss circle to relocate them.Bring healing items to the Warthog fight. The Bordering Ruins area is densely populated with enemies riding warthogs. The sheer volume of attackers combined with the boss's heavy damage makes this the most challenging of the five encounters. Stock up on Palar Pills and food.Town-friendly mounts. NPCs will not react negatively to you riding legendary mounts through towns. You can travel through populated areas without causing alarm.Silver Fang for combat; Snow White Deer for travel. If you want a combat companion, Silver Fang is the clear winner since it fights independently while you are dismounted. For getting around the map quickly, the Snow White Deer's high speed and massive stamina pool make it the best choice.Polar Bear for boss fights. With 180 attack and 1,500 HP, the Polar Bear deals more damage than most players can at similar gear levels. Use it as a mounted damage platform for difficult boss encounters, even though it is too slow for general exploration.150150151151Summary152152153153All five legendary mounts are worth pursuing for completionists, but if you want to prioritize, go for Silver Fang first (its combat companion ability is unmatched), then the Snow White Deer for traversal, and the Polar Bear for its devastating attack power. The Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex and Rock Tusk Warthog are primarily prestige unlocks with more situational utility.154154155155For a broader overview of every mount in the game, see the Mounts page or the All Mounts Comparison table.156156157157Legendary Horse Taming Notes158158159159Unlike the five legendary beast mounts, the three legendary horses have no campaign requirements. Each of them can be approached and tamed as soon as you can physically reach their spawn point. The challenge is the tame itself, which drains your own stamina and often takes multiple attempts.160160161161The Three Legendary Horses162162163163Royala is the white legendary horse and is often called the fastest of the three. She spawns by a small lake in the far north of the map, just below the letter P on the map label.Rocinante is the black legendary horse. He spawns near the commotion in the spire, an area crowded with plantation and hostile enemies. Many players pull him out of the spawn area before attempting the tame so the fight does not interrupt the process.Camira is the red legendary horse. She spawns far east of the first town, in a scenic area just west of the Red River. A yellow horse also spawns in the same cluster; Camira is the red one.164164165165Taming Technique166166167167Approach the target horse and lock onto it with L1 or the left bumper. Press the action button (X on PlayStation or square on the default PC mapping) to begin the tame. Your goal is to keep the left analog stick pointed at the back of the horse, its rear, while the horse spins to shake you. If the rear faces left, hold the stick left. If it faces away from you, hold up.168168169169A useful trick is to let the right stick do the work. Keep the camera trained on the horse's rear with the right stick, then you only have to hold a consistent direction on the left stick. Reducing your camera speed in the settings menu can make this easier to control. Taming drains your character's stamina, so six or more stamina upgrades are strongly recommended before trying. If stamina runs out, the horse kicks you off and bolts, and you have to chase and restart.170170171171Spawn Reset and Open Ground172172173173Legendary horses are skittish and will flee at long range. If you arrive at the spawn and the horse is missing, run a short distance away and return to force a respawn. If a legendary horse keeps escaping into trees or buildings, drive it toward open ground before locking on. Obscured terrain makes it much harder to keep the camera on the horse's rear, which is the single biggest factor in a successful tame.174174175175Rock Tusk Warthog: Practical Notes176176177177The Rock Tusk Warthog quest can trigger without any faction prerequisites. Travel to the marked warthog rider area and start clearing every warthog rider and regular warthog you see. Community players report no prior House quest was required for the trigger to fire.178178179179The tracking prompt may not appear immediately. Keep culling riders until it surfaces. Once tracking activates, pull up your lantern and follow the gold outline to a larger warthog ridden by a rider in a red cape. On the minimap the target appears as an unusually large red dot. Kill the rider once, re-track him, and kill him a second time to receive the warthog tusk. If the surrounding warthog riders keep interrupting you, pull them off the boss and clear them first, then engage the target alone.180180181181Cross References for Individual Mounts182182183183For per-mount detail and lore, see White Bear, Snowwhite Deer, Silver Fang, and Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex.184184185185Fleeting Companions186186187187Beyond the five permanent legendary mounts, Crimson Desert features a category of temporary mounts called Fleeting Companions. These are creatures you can find and ride in the open world, but they cannot be registered for permanent ownership. The developers have hinted that more of these may become summonable permanent mounts in future patches, similar to how the five legendary mounts were originally temporary before Patch 1.01.00 made them permanent.188188189189The Fleeting Companions are tracked in the Knowledge List under their own category. Each one has unique movement traits or combat abilities that set it apart from standard horses. Below is a summary of each fleeting companion and additional rideable creatures not yet on the official list.190190191191Cuckoo Bird Hatchling and Leaping Cuckoo Bird192192193193Both cuckoo bird variants are found in the Steel Mountains, on the southern side of the map between Hernand and Demeniss. Look for areas controlled by the Blinding Arrows faction, whose members ride these birds as mounts. Knock a rider off and chase down the bird to mount it.194194195195Despite having different names and separate Knowledge List entries, the two cuckoo variants function identically. They share the same movement speed and jump height. Their standout ability is gliding: after jumping, the bird glides downward instead of falling, making them perfect for traversing the mountainous terrain around their spawn area. You can leap off a cliff and glide safely to the bottom while still mounted.196196197197The only visual difference is that the Cuckoo Bird Hatchling has an egg sitting on its head, giving it a comical appearance. Both variants would make excellent permanent mount candidates since players could choose between the egg-headed version and the standard one.198198199199Giant Iguanas200200201201Giant iguanas come in several color variations and are most commonly found in the Crimson Desert region, with large numbers around the Tashelp area where enemies ride them. To mount one, the iguana must first be riderless and then staggered. The safest approach is to spam Force Palms into the iguana, which applies high stagger value without dealing much damage. Once staggered, stow your weapon and press the interact button to mount it.202202203203Iguanas are not especially fast and cannot climb walls despite being lizards. However, they have a unique ranged attack: a poison projectile that deals damage over time to enemies on contact. This makes them the only fleeting companion with a built-in ranged offensive ability.204204205205Sandwalk Camels206206207207The Sandwalk Camel is found throughout the Crimson Desert region and is sometimes ridden by civilians, not just hostile NPCs. Remove the rider and you can steal the camel for yourself.208208209209The camel's key advantage is that it does not consume any stamina when running, giving it effectively infinite sprint duration. Its actual speed sits around the slower end of a horse, so it is not the fastest option, but never needing to stop and regenerate stamina makes it a solid choice for long, uninterrupted desert crossings. Its jump height is quite low, limiting vertical traversal to ramps and gentle slopes.210210211211Red-Feathered Raptor212212213213The Red-Feathered Raptor is essentially a rideable dinosaur. These are ridden by the Twilight Messenger faction, recognizable by their gold-colored attire. They can be found around the eastern side of the Tashelp area in the Crimson Desert. Knock the rider off and mount the raptor before it bolts.214214215215The raptor is not overly fast in terms of raw speed and does not jump particularly high. However, it has surprisingly good horizontal jump distance, covering a large gap with each leap. Beyond that unusual trait, it functions as a fairly standard mount. Its main appeal is the visual factor of riding a dinosaur through the desert.216216217217Mechanical Horse218218219219The Mechanical Horse is a one-of-a-kind mount made of wood and metal with visible golden joints. It can be found at the stables in Dlesia, on the eastern side of the map just south of the castle. NPCs in the area gather around it in amazement because even the residents of Dlesia find a mechanical horse remarkable.220220221221Petting the Mechanical Horse earns its Knowledge List entry. To actually ride it, you need to steal it while wearing a mask. This mount has three highly unusual properties:222222223223Cannot jump. Pressing the jump button does nothing. The horse is presumably too heavy for that function. No stamina bar. Similar to the Sandwalk Camel, it cannot consume stamina, allowing you to sprint indefinitely without stopping.Walks underwater. Instead of swimming, the Mechanical Horse attempts to walk along the underwater terrain. Because it has no stamina bar, you do not drown or drain stamina while doing this, letting you cross small seabeds on foot. This behavior is visually glitchy and may not be intentional, but it works for crossing shallow bodies of water.224224225225The Mechanical Horse is not particularly fast, but the combination of infinite stamina and the ability to cross water makes it a genuinely unique option. It is categorized separately from wildlife in the Knowledge List, having its own entry outside the standard wildling categories.226226227227Other Rideable Creatures (Not Fleeting Companions)228228229229Several additional creatures can be ridden but are not listed under the Fleeting Companions category in the Knowledge List. These may become permanent mount options in future updates.230230231231Cows and Highland Cows: Cows on your ranch can be ridden. They are slow and lack combat ability, but the Highland Cow in particular is a fan favorite for its shaggy, endearing appearance.Buffalo: Another rideable bovine. Buffalo cannot sprint at all, making them the slowest rideable creature in the game. They would still make a fun cosmetic permanent mount option.Circus Lion: Found at the Laughing Marionette Circus in Demeniss. The lion is super quick for travel. It technically has an attack, but the damage does not consistently connect with living targets. See the Circus Lion article for details.Tigers: Found in the rainforest and the area between the Red River and Drywind Valley. Tigers are very fast, have solid jumping with excellent air control that lets you maneuver well before landing, and deal reliable damage with their attack. See the Tiger article for more.Armored Elephant: Located at the Demon Wildlife Park south of the main city in the Demeniss region. It only seems to appear very late at night, around 3:00 AM. The elephant is tanky and has stamina, but moves slowly. See the Elephant article for details.232232233233Future Permanent Mount Prospects234234235235The developers have confirmed in a blog post that more summonable mounts are being worked on. The five original legendary mounts were themselves part of the Fleeting Companions system before being converted to permanent summonable mounts in Patch 1.01.00. This precedent suggests that additional fleeting companions, particularly the more popular ones like the cuckoo birds, raptors, and Mechanical Horse, could follow the same path in future updates.
