Players need to push Celeste through its legendary animals and legendary hunter subchains first. That unlocks the parish line, which begins with Mysterious Arrow and ends with the approach to the ruined chapel where this quest takes place.

Defeating him clears the parish line and drops the Shadow Gloves as the signature reward, a consumable that grants one minute of total stealing immunity. The Goldbranch Plate Crown and the Greedy Lightningblade drop alongside the gloves.
