They administered two sub-institutions, formally split during the Yongle period (1402-1424): the Northern Administrative Court (北镇抚司, bei zhenfusi), which handled imperial-mandated cases (诏狱) and maintained its own secret prison with authority to independently arrest, interrogate, and execute without going through regular judicial channels; and the Southern Administrative Court (南镇抚司, nan zhenfusi), which managed internal discipline and personnel within the guard. Whoever controlled the Northern Commandery seal held the greatest power within the Jinyiwei. The game's interrogation system draws on this historical authority.
