77 The studio was founded in 2022 by Liu Qiwei (刘启威), known online as 离忧先生 ("Mr. Li You"). Liu was working at a casual games company when he saw the trailer for Lost Soul Aside, a solo-developed action game backed by Sony's China Hero Project. Inspired by the idea that a small team could build a competitive action game, he quit to develop Souls of Blades independently, then founded CangMo to build a larger-scale project.

Around 2024 the studio adopted motion capture and 3D scanning and scaled up to what Chinese coverage calls a "2A" operation, growing from its original six people to more than thirty by late 2025.

2020 CangMo joined Phase 3 of PlayStation's China Hero Project in July 2024. The program provides approximately RMB 1 million (~USD 140,000) in free resources per title, along with technical expertise, international promotion, localization, publishing assistance, and art asset upgrades. Phase 4 of the program adds early code review, UI/UX evaluations by PlayStation's Visual Arts team, co-development with Virtuos, and haptic technology from RichTap.

2626 In April 2026, 4Divinity, the games publishing arm of GCL Global, entered a memorandum of understanding with Chengdu Cangmo for worldwide publishing rights to A Whisper of Fall: Jinyiwei. On June 18, 2026, the parties signed a definitive publishing agreement that formally appointed 4Divinity as the exclusive global publisher and distributor across PC and consoles. 4Divinity handles worldwide publishing, marketing, localization, and distribution, while Cangmo remains the developer and the studio of record on the Steam storefront entry.

2828 The agreement is separate from Sony Interactive Entertainment's involvement through PlayStation China Hero Project, which provides incubation support and is credited as the publisher on the PlayStation Store concept listing. Both relationships co-exist: the China Hero Project covers development assistance and PlayStation-side promotion, while the signed 4Divinity agreement covers global publishing for the 2027 launch. As of the agreement, the Steam store metadata still lists Cangmo as the publisher, reflecting a lag rather than a change in the deal.
