Sentinels (哨兵, also 机械哨兵 and, in the Chinese store text, 旧日的哨兵, the sentinels of old) are the machines that pursue Molly and Mio through Ylem's Cat. They were left behind by the civilisation that came before the Endi, and they are the only enemy faction named anywhere in published material.

Why They Attack
The Endi and the Sentinels had coexisted peacefully for as long as anyone could remember. That ended on the day the planet heaved, a new giant rose from the split ground, and a pitch-black cat appeared. From that day the Sentinels began hunting the cat, and Molly with it. The store text puts the question plainly and does not answer it: why the Sentinels are hunting your cat is one of the threads the story is built on. See Yilun Star and the Silent Giants for the events around their turn.
In the Demo Build
Every enemy in the press demo shown in August 2026 was mechanical and humanoid, and the level ended on a boss-class one. Three behaviours were described in detail, each of them solvable by understanding rather than by damage:
Type | Behaviour | How it is handled |
|---|---|---|
Shielded Sentinel | Blocks frontal attacks behind a shield. | Switch Mio to a form that can flank and break the guard from behind, or shoot the eye set into the shield, which resembles the heads of other Sentinels and bypasses the shield entirely. |
Overheating Sentinel | Enters a glowing orange state that reads like the wind-up to a heavy attack. | A coordinated skill with Mio interrupts the state before it resolves. |
Flying Sentinel | Stays out of reach of ground melee. | The big cat's leap destroys the flight device and brings it down, after which Molly can reach it. |
Full move sets and the progression around them are on the Combat page.
Aggro and the Cat
In the demo, Sentinels ignored Mio completely and put all of their attention on Molly. The producer has said this is specific to the opening chapter, that it is laying groundwork for the story rather than being a simplification, and that enemies later in the game will attack the cat directly and will be able to disable some of its abilities.
Terminology
A second Chinese term, 组构体, has also been applied to the demo's enemies in Chinese-language write-ups of the event. No published material states how that term relates to 哨兵, so the two should not be treated as the same thing. Only Sentinels has an official English form.
The Wider Roster
The developers have given two reasons for leaning on mechanical enemies: they suit the light science-fiction setting, and a seven-person team cannot cheaply author large numbers of organic creatures. They have also said the full game is not limited to them, and that non-humanoid bosses will exist, neither of which was represented in the demo.
What Is Not Known
No individual Sentinel, enemy type or boss has a published name.
The civilisation that built them is unnamed, and nothing has been published about what became of it.
Nothing has been published about why the Sentinels react to the cat specifically, or about what they were built to guard.
No enemy count, roster or bestiary has been published beyond the three demo behaviours above.
