Planet Kronus is the world on which the entire game of **Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV** takes place. Every campaign, every faction's story, and the game's persistent meta-campaign all unfold on this single contested world. It is the common ground that ties the four Factions together: each one comes to Kronus, and each one fights to control it.
A Contested World

Kronus is fought over by all four launch factions: the Space Marines, the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Necrons, and the Orks. The struggle ignites after the Adeptus Mechanicus expedition's discovery on the planet, which draws every faction into the conflict. What follows is a war for the planet waged from four different perspectives, each told through that faction's own Campaign. For the full account of the discovery and the mystery at its heart, see Story and Setting.
The Heart of the War
Because the whole game is set here, Kronus is more than a backdrop. It is the prize itself. The factions do not merely pass through the planet; they arrive specifically to seize, defend, or uncover what it holds. This makes Kronus the central battleground around which the entire narrative is organized.
Focus of the Crusade Meta-Campaign
Kronus is not only the setting of the story campaign but also the focus of the **Crusade Mode** meta-campaign. The persistent fight for the planet carries over into that mode, extending the war for Kronus beyond the scripted Campaign and keeping the world at the center of play.
The single setting: The entire game takes place on Kronus.
Contested by four factions: The Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus, Necrons, and Orks all fight over it.
The catalyst: The Adeptus Mechanicus expedition's discovery draws the factions to the planet.
Meta-campaign focus: Kronus is the focus of the Crusade Mode meta-campaign as well as the story Campaign.
