The Adeptus Mechanicus are one of the four launch factions in **Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV**, and they arrive in their series debut: they have never before been playable in a Dawn of War game. They are a ranged, tech-driven army that prefers nimble long-ranged combat and tech tools over melee, fielding everything from light recon infantry to a colossal war machine. Like every faction, they have their own full Campaign set on Planet Kronus.
A Ranged, Tech-Focused Faction
The Adeptus Mechanicus playstyle centers on nimble, long-ranged combat and the clever use of technology rather than wading into melee. Two signature systems define how the faction operates on the battlefield: the Noosphere Network and Auger Vision.
Noosphere Network
The Noosphere Network links the faction's buildings, static weapons, and units together. The network grows stronger as you add more structures, and that growth unlocks new units and makes production cheaper. This ties the faction's military strength directly to how it expands and develops its presence on the map; see Base Building and Resources for how structures and economy work in the game.
Auger Vision
Auger Vision gives the Adeptus Mechanicus enhanced battlefield awareness beneath the fog of war, helping the faction see and react to threats that would otherwise be hidden. Combined with their ranged focus, this lets them spot and engage enemies from a position of information advantage.
Named Units
The faction fields a roster that spans ranged infantry, dedicated melee specialists, fast vehicles, heavy weapon platforms, and a towering war engine. The named units confirmed for the Adeptus Mechanicus are listed below.
Unit | Role |
|---|---|
Skitarii Rangers | Ranged infantry |
Ruststalkers | Melee |
Ironstrider Ballistarius | Fast vehicle |
Onager Dunecrawler | Heavy weapon platform |
Skorpius Disintegrator | Long-range |
Knight Castellan | Colossal war machine |
Commanders
The Adeptus Mechanicus have two Commanders to lead them, each offering a different approach. See Commanders for the battlefield leaders across all factions and Characters for the wider named cast.
Potentia Delta-9: A Technoarcheologist who provides servo-skull scouting and flexible melee and ranged upgrades.
Skitarii Marshal Sek-Ix-23: A buff-focused Commander composed of multiple models.
Void Shields and the House Raven Knight
A defining Adeptus Mechanicus structure is the Void Shield, a large defensive generator that projects a protective barrier over nearby buildings and units. Friendly units can move freely through the shield while it blocks incoming enemy fire, which supports the faction's methodical, fortified style of advance.
The faction's single most powerful asset, the colossal Knight Castellan, is not built like an ordinary unit: it is fielded through a partnership with the noble House Raven, making it a centerpiece you work toward rather than mass-produce.
How They Play
In practice, the Adeptus Mechanicus reward methodical play: build out your structures to strengthen the Noosphere Network and unlock cheaper, more advanced units, use Auger Vision to keep sight of the enemy, and apply pressure from range with units like the Skitarii Rangers and Skorpius Disintegrator while heavier platforms and the Knight Castellan anchor your line. As with every faction, their units grow stronger over a battle through Unit Veterancy, and combat is handled by the Combat Director system.
