Role in The Witcher IV
Ciara Berkeley is the voice and performance capture actress for Ciri in The Witcher IV. She replaces Jo Wyatt, who voiced Ciri in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
CD Projekt Red confirmed the recast shortly after the December 2024 trailer debut. The studio stated that Berkeley "truly brought Ciri to life" and that the decision was made to match the new direction of the character, who is now the sole protagonist rather than a secondary playable character.
Background
Berkeley is a young Irish actress. Her prior screen credits include the television series Normal People, Bad Sisters, and The Deceived. The Witcher IV represents her first major video game role.
The Recast
The decision to recast Ciri's voice was a topic of discussion among fans following the trailer reveal. Jo Wyatt had voiced Ciri in The Witcher 3 and was well regarded in the role. However, CDPR explained that The Witcher IV required a significantly larger performance, as Ciri is now the lead character with thousands of lines of dialogue compared to her limited role in The Witcher 3.
The performance capture demands were also a factor. The Witcher IV uses full body and facial motion capture, requiring the voice actress to physically perform scenes. CDPR sought an actress who could handle both the vocal and physical dimensions of the role across the full production schedule.
Doug Cockle, who has voiced Geralt since 2007, was confirmed to reprise his role. Cockle commented that he was excited to see Ciri's story unfold as the protagonist.
