Tongyou Anomaly (通幽之异) is the second main-story chapter of the Jixia Academy arc in Honor of Kings: World. It follows the Prologue and Chapter 1 (Dream Awakens in Spring Creek Plain), sending the player from Suhuai Encampment out to the ruined Youjing City, through a winding underground passage, and into a separate Hidden World map. The chapter introduces the Mengqi summon spirit, teaches cooperative combat through the Return Flow Seal, and gates two story bosses: Earthshaking Mad Wood and Azure Axe Forged General.
Overview
This chapter splits across three broad phases. You first cross the Chunxi (Spring Creek) wetlands to reach Youjing City, unlocking two waystones on the way. Inside the city, a sequence called Winding Path Through the Hidden (曲径通幽) uses vertical traversal and a teammate link to reach the first boss arena. After the first boss falls, a golden gate opens onto the Hidden World (隐秘世界), a persistent underground map with its own collectibles and a second boss. Clearing both bosses completes the chapter and feeds directly into the Jixia interlude Supreme Academy.

Before starting, open the Resonance (共鸣) menu from the top right and spend any available materials on the character you plan to lead with. Early-game resources are tight, so concentrating investment in one main Resonance pays off through both boss fights in this chapter.
Objectives
Speak with the Xingmang (Starlight) instructor at Suhuai Encampment to begin the chapter.
Travel toward Youjing City, unlocking the Chunxi Ancient Battlefield and Youjing City waystones on the way.
Defeat the two enemies guarding the Youjing City gate and unlock the Mengqi summon spirit.
Traverse inner Youjing City via climbing and vaulting, then use the Return Flow Seal to summon your teammate.
Defeat the first boss, Earthshaking Mad Wood, at the end of the Winding Path.
Enter the golden gate to the Hidden World and fight through the corridor encounters.
Defeat the chapter-end boss, Azure Axe Forged General.
Interact with the golden sigil on the raised platform to exit the Hidden World and close the chapter.
Step by Step Walkthrough
1. Leave Suhuai Encampment
Once Chapter 2 unlocks, return to Suhuai Encampment (溯洄营地) and talk to the Xingmang instructor. This opens the route west toward Youjing City. Follow the yellow waypoint out of camp and activate the Chunxi Ancient Battlefield (春溪古战场) waystone on the way. Activating waystones en route saves a long backtrack later when you are collecting side objectives or grinding daily Zhao Wen Dao (朝闻道) tasks.
2. Reach and Open the Youjing City Gate
Continue west until the marker for Youjing City (幽径城) appears. Activate the city waystone before the scripted encounter. At the gate you are forced into a fight with two enemies. Crowd-control Resonances such as Xi Shi clump the pair together for a fast kill; single-target specialists like the Child of the Primal Flow can pick them off one at a time. The fight ends in a short cutscene that grants the Mengqi summon spirit.
3. Mengqi Summon Unlock
Mengqi (梦奇) joins your Summon Spirit slot after the gate cutscene. When cast, the spirit wraps the active character in a shield. When that shield expires or breaks, it detonates for damage on nearby enemies. Keep Mengqi in rotation through the rest of the chapter, particularly before committing to the red-glow attacks in the boss fights ahead.
4. Winding Path: Inside Youjing City
The interior of Youjing City asks for vertical traversal. Press F to grapple to the high ledge above the gate, then jump down into the courtyard to trigger a small melee with a group of minions. Clearing them opens the gate to the Winding Path Through the Hidden (曲径通幽) sub-route. Along the way there is a crafting bench near the main path: stop here to top up potions before the boss, since inventory options are limited once you cross into the boss arena.
5. Return Flow Seal
Deeper into the corridor, you are prompted to interact with a Return Flow Seal (归流印). This summons a linked teammate for the first boss fight. In co-op the teammate is a real player; solo, the game supplies a story companion. The boss's aggro shifts between the two of you during combat, so plan Resonance cooldowns around the moments when the boss is looking away.
6. Boss Arena and Transition
With the seal activated, follow the only available corridor forward. The path opens into a wide arena where Earthshaking Mad Wood drops in. After you defeat it (see the Bosses section below), the back wall reveals a large golden gate. Interact with it to enter the Hidden World.
7. The Hidden World
The Hidden World (隐秘世界) is not a one-off instance. It is a persistent map you can revisit later for treasure chests, stone tablets, and subsidiary quests. For the main path, press forward through the linear corridor, fight the patrols of mask-wearing soldiers, climb the broken stairs, and use F to vault over the cliff gaps where prompted. The corridor terminates at the chapter's final boss arena.
8. Close the Chapter
After the second boss falls, walk to the raised platform at the far end of the arena. A golden sigil on the floor is the exit interact: use it to leave the Hidden World, watch the closing cutscene, and the chapter completes. The next content beat is the Jixia interlude Supreme Academy (最高学堂), which resumes at the Western Cloud Fallen Highland surface.
Bosses
Earthshaking Mad Wood (撼地狂木)
The first boss of the chapter. A wood-type giant that fights from the center of a circular arena. It is slow to commit, which makes its attack patterns readable once you have seen each one, and the linked teammate splits its aggro, easing the pressure on your main Resonance.
Attack | Tell | Counter |
|---|---|---|
Head Slam | Rears back, slams forehead into the ground, launches falling rocks in a cone. | Sidestep out of the cone before the slam lands, then punish the recovery. |
Foot Stomp | Picks up one foot, stomps in place, knocks up anything in a short radius. | Back off the boss's feet during melee combos, or stay at Xi Shi / Gongsun Li range. |
Standard Charge (Longche) | Raises one leg high as a wind-up, then runs at the targeted player at moderate speed. | Only the targeted player needs to move; step perpendicular to the boss's path. |
Red-Glow Charge | Red aura on the head, fast forward rush that launches everyone in the lane. | Perfect dodge sideways, or pop Mengqi's shield if dodge is on cooldown. |
Underground Tail Poison | After an execution window, the boss burrows and extends its tail in the arena's center, spraying poison rain over a wide area. | Damage the exposed tail to end the poison phase; ranged Resonances are ideal. |
Head and Tail Whip | When the boss resurfaces it chains head sweeps into tail swipes with almost no gap. | Stay beyond whip range during resurface, then close in once the pattern ends. |
Recommended Resonances against Earthshaking Mad Wood: Xi Shi, Jialuo, Wang Zhaojun, or Meng Ya. Ranged pressure during the tail phase is the fastest way to end the poison rain, and having a ranged main keeps you safely outside the head-and-tail whip chain. Craft healing potions at the in-city bench if your stock is low.
Azure Axe Forged General (青钺铸将)
The Hidden World boss. A heavily armored construct wielding a pair of axes. Unlike Earthshaking Mad Wood, Azure Axe Forged General chains attacks together with very little breathing room, so learning the dodge timings matters more than raw damage.
Attack | Tell | Counter |
|---|---|---|
Ground Slam | Raises both axes, slams straight down in a small frontal zone. | Step outside the frontal cone; ranged Resonances simply walk away. |
Continuous Palm Clap | Rapid back-to-back double-palm strikes aimed forward, high damage per hit, tracks for the first slap. | After the first slap, sprint laterally or reposition behind the boss; do not try to block in place. |
Weapon Spin | Body and axes spin together in a sustained rotating sweep around the boss. | Leave the rotation range early, or dodge in sequence through each revolution. |
Red-Glow Leap Slam | Red aura, jumps into the air and slams down on the player's position with a large AoE. | Perfect dodge at the last moment, or spend stamina sprinting fully out of the zone. |
Yellow Carpet Shockwave | At lower health, lays a yellow carpet on the ground that produces a delayed upward shockwave. | Exit the yellow zone before the delayed tick fires; do not stand still inside it for free hits. |
Ground Spike Line | A line of spikes erupts from the boss's feet, tracking toward the player and extending to the arena edge. | Dodge perpendicular to the line; perfect dodging the first spike breaks the sequence. |
Red-Glow Double Spike Strike | Two-handed spike slam with red glow covering a wide area in front of the boss. | Treat as priority dodge; Mengqi's shield absorbs one hit if your dodge is on cooldown. |
Axe Phantom Throw | Summons a yellow weapon phantom, hurls both axes outward then recalls them. | Easiest attack to dodge; watch the recall path so you are not hit by the return swing. |
Rugby Tackle | Lowers shoulder and charges straight at the player. | Sidestep the lane, then follow up on the short recovery. |
Recommended Resonances against Azure Axe Forged General: ranged picks (Xi Shi, Jialuo, Wang Zhaojun, Meng Ya) stay outside most of the continuous palm clap and rugby tackle combos. Save Mengqi's shield for either the red-glow leap slam or the red-glow double spike, which punish the hardest if you eat them clean.
Rewards
Completing Tongyou Anomaly grants several structural unlocks rather than a single headline drop. The exact loot roll is randomized per run, but every player finishes the chapter with the same progression milestones.
Mengqi summon spirit, the first shield-type summon, usable in every later encounter.
Chunxi Ancient Battlefield and Youjing City waystones, both permanent fast-travel nodes.
First entry into the Hidden World map, a persistent dungeon that can be revisited for treasure chests, stone tablets, runic inscriptions, and side quests.
Resonance Advancement materials from both boss rewards, feeding the 共鸣进阶 upgrade track.
Weapon upgrade materials from elite enemies along the Winding Path.
Main-story experience and progression toward the level 11 gate required to enter the following arc, Jixia Chapter 3: The Shining Stars.
Tips
Open the Resonance menu before leaving Suhuai Encampment and commit early materials to your main. Split investment is wasted at this stage of the story.
Activate every waystone you pass, even when rushing the story. Each one saves minutes of backtracking for side quests or daily Zhao Wen Dao goals.
Stop at the crafting bench inside Youjing City before engaging Earthshaking Mad Wood. Healing potion stock is the biggest factor separating a clean kill from a messy one.
Red-glow attacks ignore the usual dodge window and demand a perfect dodge or a shield. Treat those tells as the highest-priority cue in both boss fights.
During Earthshaking Mad Wood's underground phase, focus the exposed tail; every second of poison rain chews through supplies you need for the second boss.
Against Azure Axe Forged General, the continuous palm clap is the only attack that punishes greedy melee. After the first slap, sprint lateral or circle behind the boss.
The Hidden World is persistent, so come back for remaining chests and tablets later once your Resonances are stronger.
What Comes Next
The chapter flows directly into the Jixia interlude Supreme Academy. You return to the Western Cloud Fallen Highland surface, board a cloud vessel with a Vessel Guide (引舟使), and arrive at the academy proper. At the academy you meet Dongfang Yao again, encounter Laozi (老夫子) near a Cloud Cocoon (云茧), and unlock the Gameplay Manual (玩法手册). Reaching the next main chapter, Jixia Chapter 3: The Shining Stars, requires character level 11; clear the Zhao Wen Dao daily quests and early-game side content to hit that threshold.
