AFTERMATH Expansion
September 16, 2026 at 04:21 AM
Initial version (2026-09-15)
AFTERMATH is the larger of the two paid expansions announced for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV. The storefront describes it as a campaign expansion that adds a new playable faction, which makes it the only announced route to a fifth army.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV has not released yet. Everything on this page reflects information published before launch and may change.
The official framing is consistent across the storefront and the roadmap art: AFTERMATH is a campaign expansion plus a new faction. The Year 1 Expansion description pairs it with the Blood Ravens Story Prologue and says the two together will deepen the story further and include a new playable faction.

The four factions available at launch are the Space Marines, the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Necrons and the Orks. AFTERMATH is stated to add one more. Which one has not been named, described, hinted at or shown in any official material, and this page deliberately does not guess. The Dark Angels are sometimes mistaken for a fifth army; they are a playable sub-faction of the Space Marines and are available at launch, which is a different thing.
AFTERMATH is bundled into the Commander Edition, which pairs the base game with both paid expansions and a Digital Soundtrack at a higher price than the Standard Edition. Standard Edition owners would need to acquire the expansions separately. See Release Date and Editions for the edition comparison and pricing.
The roadmap places AFTERMATH late in the first year, near the Summer marker on a timeline that starts at 2027. The studio prints its own caveat on the same image: DLC and release windows are subject to change. Treat the placement as the published target rather than a date, and see Post-Launch Roadmap and DLC for how it sits against the four free drops.
