11The Adeptus Mechanicus are one of the four launch factions in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV, and they arrive in their series debut: they have never before been playable in a Dawn of War game. They are a ranged, tech-driven army that prefers nimble long-ranged combat and tech tools over melee, fielding everything from light recon infantry to a colossal war machine. Like every faction, they have their own full Campaign set on Planet Kronus.2233A Ranged, Tech-Focused Faction4455The Adeptus Mechanicus playstyle centers on nimble, long-ranged combat and the clever use of technology rather than wading into melee. Two signature systems define how the faction operates on the battlefield: the Noosphere Network and Auger Vision.6677Noosphere Network8899The mechanism behind it is linkage. Structures are connected back to the headquarters to form the network, and that connection is what unlocks the faction's more powerful weaponry. Anything inside the network, units and structures alike, also receives economic and combat boons, so the shape of an Adeptus Mechanicus base is a tactical decision rather than just a build order.10101111The Noosphere Network links the faction's buildings, static weapons, and units together. The network grows stronger as you add more structures, and that growth unlocks new units and makes production cheaper. This ties the faction's military strength directly to how it expands and develops its presence on the map; see Base Building and Resources for how structures and economy work in the game.12121313Noosphere Level and Cogitator Relays14141515Two further pieces of the network have since been named. The Noosphere Level is what a wider network buys you: raising it unlocks important research and upgrades, so a Mechanicus player is expected to keep their units fitted with the best technology available rather than simply fielding more of them. Cogitator Relays are the network's weak points. Official guidance for opponents is to destroy Relays in key positions, which weakens the Noosphere Network and rolls back the bonuses it grants.16161717Auger Vision18181919Auger Vision gives the Adeptus Mechanicus enhanced battlefield awareness beneath the fog of war, helping the faction see and react to threats that would otherwise be hidden. Combined with their ranged focus, this lets them spot and engage enemies from a position of information advantage.20202121Named Units22222323The faction fields a roster that spans ranged infantry, dedicated melee specialists, fast vehicles, heavy weapon platforms, and a towering war engine. The named units confirmed for the Adeptus Mechanicus are listed below.24242525UnitRoleSkitarii RangersRanged infantryRuststalkersMeleeIronstrider BallistariusFast vehicleOnager DunecrawlerHeavy weapon platformSkorpius DisintegratorLong-rangeKnight CastellanColossal war machine2626Commanders27272828The Adeptus Mechanicus have two Commanders to lead them, each offering a different approach. Alongside the Void Shield this gives them two ways to fortify a position rather than one. The Necrons, by contrast, use no cover at all, and the Orks build their own directional cover instead.35353636A defining Adeptus Mechanicus structure is the Void Shield, a large defensive generator that projects a protective barrier over nearby buildings and units. Friendly units can move freely through the shield while it blocks incoming enemy fire, which supports the faction's methodical, fortified style of advance.37373838The faction's single most powerful asset, the colossal Knight Castellan, is not built like an ordinary unit: it is fielded through a partnership with the noble House Raven, making it a centerpiece you work toward rather than mass-produce.39394040How They Play41414242In practice, the Adeptus Mechanicus reward methodical play: build out your structures to strengthen the Noosphere Network and unlock cheaper, more advanced units, use Auger Vision to keep sight of the enemy, and apply pressure from range with units like the Skitarii Rangers and Skorpius Disintegrator while heavier platforms and the Knight Castellan anchor your line. As with every faction, their units grow stronger over a battle through Unit Veterancy, and combat is handled by the Combat Director system.43434444Official Play Guidance45454646The official site publishes a short set of tips for playing as the Adeptus Mechanicus and for playing against them.47474848Playing as the Adeptus Mechanicus49495050Build a strong Noosphere Network early, then extend it to your key resource points.Raise the Noosphere Level to unlock research and upgrades, and keep your units carrying the best technology you have.Keep enemy melee units away from your superior firing line.51515252Playing Against the Adeptus Mechanicus53535454Use your own melee units to engage their powerful ranged units.Destroy Cogitator Relays in key positions to weaken their Noosphere Network. They field both cheap units and powerful late-game units, so you cannot simply outproduce them.
